AVALON AIRSHOW TRAFFIC MANAGED USING TACO ANTENNAS
The recent Avalon Airshow held just south of Melbourne was a busy event with Australian Defence TV news reporting just under 50,000 Defence industry visitors and nearly 800 industry participants. A feature of the show was the static display of Military Heavy aircraft and the high-end civilian aircraft like the Citation range of corporate jets, as well as the steady stream of flying displays which demonstrated the capabilities of aircraft like the F-35, the F18 Super Hornet, the F-22, the F-35A Lightning II, the C17- Globemaster III, the MH-60 Seahawk Helicopter just to name a few. Throw in aerobatic displays by the Republic of Korea Black Eagles, the RAAF Roulettes, the world-renowned Matt Hall, the Super Salto Jet sailplane, and Heritage Warbirds such as the Supermarine Spitfire Mark XVI and the CAC CA-18 Mk 23 Mustang, and you have an awful lot of aircraft movements in and out of the Airfield each day.

Aircraft Traffic movements at the Avalon air show were managed from the TAOT (Temporary Air Operations Tower) supplied in partnership to the Australian Air Force by several Prime Contractors and featuring the TACO Ground-to-air Antennas in VHF and UHF.
Why did they only put 4 antennas on the TAOT?
Because of the unique design of the Wade Antenna Inc. / TACO Antenna UHF/VHF product which allows multiple antenna elements to be placed within the one Radom. Each element is separated by 30dB of isolation which means each antenna can service up to 4 radios in either VHF or UHF or a combination of both.
This reduces the number of antennas needed for Air Traffic Control Towers where space is always at a premium. The other benefit is the saving in installation and maintenance time and the reduced risk of self-interference. That’s why if you have a Ground to Air communications project, you really should look at TACO Antennas as the best way to save time, space and money.
