About Xetawave

Xetawave is a US-based manufacturer of industrial-grade wireless radio solutions — covering Ethernet radios, serial radios, LTE cell modems, and edge computing devices. Every product is designed, built, tested, and supported in Louisville, Colorado.

Control Synergy is Xetawave's exclusive distributor for the Asia-Pacific region, providing local technical support, pre-sales guidance, and access to demo units — backed by direct access to the Xetawave engineering team in the US.

Xetawave is deployed across demanding industrial environments where reliability is non-negotiable:

  • Oil & gas, mining, and utilities
  • Water and wastewater infrastructure
  • Agriculture and remote monitoring
  • Government, defence, and transport
  • Factory and warehouse automation

Xetawave is purpose-built for industrial SCADA — not adapted from consumer or enterprise Wi-Fi technology. Key differentiators include:

  • The broadest range of network types available in a single product line
  • Licensed and unlicensed frequency options in the same platform
  • AES RF and data encryption as standard across all products
  • Built-in compatibility with FreeWave, Microhard, and MDS legacy systems
  • 3-year warranty and competitive lead times from the Xetawave factory in the US
Products

Three main radio platforms are available:

  • Ethernet Radios — 1 or 2 Ethernet ports, 1 or 2 serial ports, metal or plastic enclosures, +10 to +32 VDC input
  • Serial Radios — serial-only SCADA deployments, available in metal, plastic, or board-level form factors
  • LTE Cell Modems (XetaCell / XetaBridge) — LTE CAT M1 or CAT 4 with optional 900 MHz or 2.4 GHz RF backhaul integrated into a single unit
  • Edge Computers — run Debian Linux applications directly at the field device, with extended programmable I/O
  • Communications Stations (CS) — redundant radios and power supplies with rapid hot-swap failover
  • I/O Expanders — extend digital and analogue I/O over Ethernet or serial, board or plastic enclosed
  • Terminal Servers — serial-to-Ethernet bridging, Modbus bridge capability, up to 5 simultaneous connections

Wire Replacement wirelessly replicates discrete input and output signals between locations — eliminating costly cable runs to remote sensors or actuators. Each unit supports 8 programmable I/O signals:

  • 4 analogue channels (voltage/current input, current output, or digital input)
  • 4 digital channels (input/output, counter, or analogue voltage input)

Ideal for tank level sensors, valve control, pump monitoring, and remote site automation.

Network Types

Xetawave supports a broad range of configurations to match your site layout and data requirements:

  • Point to Point (PTP) — one Access Point to one End Point, with store-and-forward repeater support
  • Point to MultiPoint (PTMP / EMP) — one Access Point to many End Points
  • MultiSpeed MultiPoint (MSMP) — End Points at varying distances communicate at different data rates from the same Access Point
  • CSMA Peer to Peer — message broadcast to all radios within line of sight, single-channel operation
  • XetaMESH — frequency-hopping peer-to-peer across up to six Access Points, no central controller required
  • Seamless Serial — simultaneous serial and Ethernet data paths from a single Ethernet Access Point
  • TDMA — time-division multiple access for deterministic, low-latency serial applications

Yes. Xetawave products are available in both licensed (narrowband) and unlicensed (900 MHz and 2.4 GHz ISM) variants.

  • Licensed options provide more predictable performance, regulatory protection, and longer range
  • Unlicensed ISM options reduce upfront cost and deployment time for less congested environments

Security

Security is built in at every layer — not a paid add-on:

  • AES RF encryption (over-the-air)
  • AES data encryption (payload level)
  • User authentication and console account control
  • SSH access control
  • HTTPS support
  • OpenVPN (XetaCell LTE modems)
Migrating to Xetawave

No — and that's one of Xetawave's most practical advantages. The product line is specifically designed to avoid costly rip-and-replace scenarios. Xetawave radios can be introduced into an existing network gradually, replacing units as they age out or as budget allows. Your existing infrastructure keeps working throughout the transition.

Yes. Xetawave offers dedicated compatibility modes for three MDS product families:

  • MDS X710 — Xeta1, 2, 4, 8, or 9 radios operate as drop-in End Points within an existing X710 master network
  • MDS TransNET — Xeta9, Xeta9x, or Xeta9s radios work alongside TransNET or TransNext masters at 106 kbps 2FSK
  • MDS SD Series — Xeta1, 2, 4, 8, or 9 radios support both serial and Ethernet data exchange with SD masters

Legacy parameters are configured through the Xetawave web interface or serial diagnostic interface — no changes required to your existing master hardware.

Yes. The Intelligent Network Synchroniser (INS) allows Xetawave networks to be co-located and operate simultaneously with legacy FreeWave or Microhard networks — without interfering with existing communications.

  • FreeWave compatible: DGR, FGR, FGR2, FGR3, and HT Plus
  • Microhard compatible: IPn920BD-ENC and IP920BD

This means you can run Xetawave End Points on the same network as legacy End Points, migrating at your own pace.

A common approach is to start at the edges — replace End Point radios first while keeping the existing Access Point in place. As familiarity and confidence grows, the Access Point can be upgraded at a later maintenance window.

For sites with FreeWave or Microhard masters, the INS module handles synchronisation between old and new radios simultaneously, allowing parallel operation with zero downtime.
